Welcome to Highden Park

A small farm with a big heart and exceptional results

In a relaxed, picturesque piece of the rolling Manawatu countryside, you’ll find a boutique thoroughbred nursery with a simple philosophy: we instill self-belief and confidence into your Bloodstock from day one.

Here, we take a passionate and dedicated approach

Every horse at Highden Park is treated with individual care and attention. With a skilled and focused team led by Sam and Libby Bleakley, we are driven to achieve the best possible results for every client and their bloodstock.

From yearling preparation to spelling racehorses, we’re involved in every step of the process. We have seen the success of this hands-on approach; Highden Park has been on the leading vendor lists at the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka yearling sales for the last four years.

Our horses leave the farm as champions

Highden Park has produced elite level racehorses such as eight-time Group One winner Beauty Generation, Hong Kong Derby winners Ping Hai Star, and Sky Darci and Group One Australasian Oaks winner Toffee Tongue.

The farm has also raised numerous other stakes performing racehorses, including Lord Vladivostok, Kinane, Harlow Gold, Vegas Knight, Monster Kaka, Milseain, Orbity, Glorious Beijing, and She’s Poppy. We’re also proud to be home for dual New Zealand Broodmare of the Year Bagalollies, and to have previously been the home of Broodmare of the Year, Stylish Bel.

Our team is driven by a passion for horses, and our hard work comes naturally. With an average of 70% of farm graduates going on to become winners, this philosophy continues to be reflected in our results. Run on just over 70 acres of rolling hill country, we believe our location has been instrumental to our success.

What we do

Our services are spearheaded by sales preparation, alongside tailored rehabilitation and quality racehorse agistment.

Breeding

We set our dry mares up before they depart for the season, they are rugged through winter with Equilume Light masks, to give them every chance to be ready come September 1st.

Foaling

We only have a very small and select resident broodmare band at Highden Park, so every foal born on the property is given the care and attention needed for the best start in life. We’re an independent farm without a stallion, which means there is no pressure for our mares to rebreed.

Agistment

Rest and recovery is incredibly important, and we put as much care into spelling racehorses as everything else we do here at the farm. Our horses show us when they are ready to return to work with a glimmer in their eye and a sparkle in their coat. We have specialist facilities to accommodate spelling colts and entires, as well as experience in successful rehabilitation.

Preparation for weanling and yearling sales

The growth from foal to yearling is a crucial phase: this is when each horse becomes an individual. Here at Highden Park we stay a few strides ahead to bring out the potential in every horse. We pride ourselves on producing well-handled and educated young stock, for sales both here in New Zealand and Australia.

Highden Park will always be home

We’re preparing champions for the racetrack, but we also welcome them home. Our retired champions, Werther and Ping Hai Star have their part to play too; they are key in educating our weanlings. As ‘nannies’, they keep the young horses calm and teach them independence.

We set our own standards

Your horses are our horses, and this is your farm too

We’re not just a bill in the mail — you’re part of the family at Highden Park and communication is a big part of our philosophy.  With a strong, results-driven appetite for success, we are here to help you achieve your own goals and ambitions for your bloodstock.

A farm born on a pure spark for horses

Be it one horse or a bloodstock portfolio, Sam, Libby and the team are here for you. With our horses, our clients, our team and our land, there is something truly special about Highden Park.
